What?

~~ foxy.art ~~ is a group of artists gathered together against all odds, for fun and profit! We sail the open seas of the web and make cool shit (and lots of porn) to post online.

Every member gets their own domain <yourname>.foxy.art as well as an e-mail address <yourname>@foxy.art, with which they may do whatever they wish (pursuant to the terms below, of course), as well as access to their own piece of the shared community blog! More technical users may also request access to the foxy.art shared server, if they wish to host a custom website or gallery.

While anyone may join the community IRC chatroom, special permissions are given to members such as access to private channels, reserved usernames, and permissions to chat during lockdowns (in the case of spam or etc).

Why?

The buzz of the modern internet often drowns out the voices and records of people who enjoy making things. So often do services and "communities" like Twitter and Discord produce little walled gardens of obscurity, dictating what artists can and can't do and what is and isn't shared based on opaque algorithms and the whim of their operators.

foxy.art is how we're pushing back on that, just a little. Artists should own their online spaces, and express themselves on those spaces however they please: personal sites, weird little galleries, passion projects nobody asked for but everyone was glad existed. Just because someone doesn't know the technical aspects that run the internet doesn't mean they should be denied their own space online.

It's also simply more fun to do things together. Shared infrastructure, shared community, and reasons to actually build something with others instead of posting into the void. Community breeds creativity and capability alike! Don't know how to make your own site like the other group members? Curious about someone's art style? Unsure where to even start? Ask! The whole point of this group is to have a community to discuss and share these things.

How?

There is no level of "skill" or popularity required to become a member. If you consider yourself an artist in any medium, and the things you create are made with your own effort, then you qualify. Of course, it always helps if we can get to know you first, be it over IRC or through a recommendation through an existing member.

The cost of registration is one (1) single artwork made in any medium of your choosing, in any intelligible fidelity or quality level, that includes the site URL in it in some recognizable form. You must create the artwork yourself, in accordance with the terms of membership below. Your artwork will be included in the gallery at the bottom of the page.

To register, please send an e-mail with the below template to admin@foxy.art. You are expected to write with proper e-mail etiquette — write it like you would a physical letter — though you're free to customize it as you please, and write it in your own tone and style, so long as it's polite. LLM-generated messages will be sent straight to the spam folder.

Terms of Membership

  1. Your content is your own. foxy.art makes no claim over anything you create or host under your subdomain. You are solely responsible for it.
  2. Don't be a vector for harm. Your subdomain and e-mail may not be used to distribute malware, conduct phishing, send spam, or host illegal content of any kind. Violations will result in immediate removal from the group.
  3. No AI-generated art. Any artwork you post online must be free of "AI" image generation, which includes Stable Diffusion, Midjourney, et cetera, as well as "AI" text generation, which includes ChatGPT, Claude, and other LLMs. Your work, including the work submitted during registration must be your own original work, made by your hand (digitally or physically). This is both a matter of principle and a way of getting to know you.
  4. The social etiquette guidelines apply everywhere. Not just in foxy.art community spaces; we hold our members to these standards as a general baseline for how they conduct themselves online.
  5. Membership can be revoked. The admin team reserves the right to remove a member and reclaim their subdomain and services if they are found to be in serious or repeated violation of these terms or the etiquette guidelines. You'll be given reasonable notice and an opportunity to migrate your content.
  6. Abandoned subdomains. If a subdomain has had no activity and the member has been unreachable for over one year, the admin team may reclaim it after making a reasonable effort to make contact.
